What we do

GSSL is a Washington nonprofit corporation and a Section 501(c)(3) organization. Its monthly meetings are divided among educational programs of interest to the group, fundraising, and socializing (after all, many of the friendships go back 30 years!).

Early on, the group selected Childhaven, then Seattle Day Nursery, to support through an annual fundraiser and other volunteer efforts. Started in 1909, Childhaven prevents child abuse and neglect by providing a safe and caring place for at-risk babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers.

In addition to an annual major contribution to Childhaven (now Akin) for its programs and operating expenses, GSSL members – individually and as a group – have also supported Childhaven by serving on its board of directors, assisting with special projects, and participating at Childhaven’s own fundraising events.

For several years, GSSL took on the task of organizing the children’s library at the Broadway Branch of Childhaven.
